Thoughts on an Infinite Universe

I read an article today about a new quantum equation that predicts a universe with no Big Bang, and supposedly even accounts for Dark Energy, the force that appears to cause our universe to expand. I'm not qualified to weigh in on these matters, the math is beyond me, but the concept fills me with wonder.

Now you might ask, why would I care? I mean, even if our universe is finite in scope, the tiny sliver of it I will get to experience might as well be infinite. The universe being 13.8 billion years old or ageless doesn't affect me in the slightest, but I have to admit that I'd like the universe to be infinite. I'm a dreamer at heart, and the current prediction of a universe that started withn a Bang but ends in frozen stillness makes me sad.

I think it's amusing sometimes that we are trying to figure out the structure of our universe from this one little point in it. Think about it, the audacity of these apes, who have only ever lived on one planet and can only see a sliver of the total universe, determined to figure out these ultimate questions with such a finite data set. I wouldn't have it any other way.
